A crafty post!

Much excitement for me!

I know I’ve shown off my tiny books (if only as prezzies) and may have mentioned that I wanted to show them better than simply putting them on the shelf with normal size books.

The idea was to make a book shaped bookshelf for them, with a lid cover so it actually looks like a normal hardback on my shelf.

I didn’t want to spend too much money on it though because I don’t know if I’ll enjoy woodworking and I never did find an actual tutorial or vid that was what I wanted.

Plenty of book shaped boxes for jewelry but the designs weren’t right for me to modify.

So, because I’m trying to pay off my far less than it was debt, I bought some cheap(ish) stuff and just today got everything cut to assemble.

Majority of supplies on the wood I’ll be cutting up.
I couldn’t find the small one I had (pretty sure I got rid of it in a craft purge) but luckily had this one in the garage to use!

It was a nightmare to cut with this thing because the blade is wobbly. I did the best I could and then just sanded the edges down as far as possible.

The wood I chose was thinner than I had wanted too but again, I didn’t want to spend too much this time in case I didn’t like it. I know a couple people who do woodworking that I could pay to make me a cute thing so…

Front and back pieces, side pieces and shelves!

Thus far it’s not bad? I think if I had the tools to cut straight lines and sand properly I’d have more fun. The frustration is purely based on the additional work needing to be done because of wobbly cuts.

*le sigh*
Needs sanding to match.

I have made it work however!

Such cute clamps!

I’ve glued the first parts together and let it set a couple hours. I’ll glue a long side next and leave it for the day since I work both places four days in a row.

Here’s hoping I’ll feel up to doing a little every night this week!

I am reading the next Atlantis book too this week so next week might be a split post or I’ll choose one and update the next next week.

See ya next week!

It’s late

And I’m tired.

I also read 3 books that were most definitely not ‘Unascended’…

Sorry.

What’s really bad about that though is that I only really enjoyed one of the books.

The other two consisted of a young reader book that, for some ungodly reason, the author thought it was appropriate to have 12 yr old kids ‘being in love’ (nothing physically happened thank God!) and a contemporary romance where the author obviously had a checklist of things to make the book more ‘diverse’ or ‘acceptable’ (I really have no idea what the author was trying to do).

…I liked the kids one enough to try book 2 and I’ll try book 3 when it comes out, but I don’t read kids books for romance.

Ever.

That should never even be a thing for that age group.

It’s why I haven’t read kids books in awhile.

As for the adult romance book. I would have enjoyed it if only one thing had been added from the checklist, but the sheer amount of unnecessary stuff was off putting.

It was too much and had the feel of being shoved down your throat in the guise of being ‘the new normal’. What’s sad is that it kept popping up and broke the flow of the story when it did.

Would have been a perfectly good romance if the author had stuck to what was relevant for the actual story and plot to move forward.

Anyways.

The young adult book is called “Blade of Secrets” and it’s by Tricia Levenseller and it’s FANTASTIC!!!

I loved this books so much and I’m SO glad book two (it’s only a duology) comes out end of the month!!

First time reading her books and I can say I’ll be trying her backlist now too she was so good!

So out of three books I only truly enjoyed one, but wow what a book!

Anyways! I’ll try to get something of Stargate read or watched for next week.

Laters peeps! (And try out Levenseller!)

About that…

I’m pretty sure I’ve never mentioned it, but my full time job (the one I love so much!) has promotions on specific titles every month.

Most of the time they aren’t my type of book and it’s hard to suggest them to people.

However!

July has three titles that looked really good and so I checked one out from the library and read it…instead of rereading ‘Unascended.’.

Sorry.

I also checked out book two in the series cause I want to know what happens next.

I’ll try and get ‘Unascended’ at least started for next week.

Until then, y’all have a fantastic week and read a Young Reader book! It’s always good to read one randomly. It’s like cleansing the pallet.

Ciao!

StALeR 61 – Legacy: Inheritors (Part 11)

I like Vala. She was a good addition to the SG-1 team and good for Daniel.

In this particular book we get to see her doing a little of the work only she can do. The way she thinks is different from even Teal’c and that’s what made her a good fit for them.

Vala has nothing to do while the battle continues against Death. Woolsey, not really meaning anything by it and probably only saying it as a wish anyways, tells her to find McKay.

She doesn’t of course because he’s already flying the puddlejumper toward the Sun to destroy Hyperion’s weapon.

She does, however, find a knocked out Sheppard.

Waking him isn’t too hard and the plot continues.

Sheppard goes on to pilot Atlantis and Vala wanders off somewhere to do something.

I’m almost 100% sure when SG-1 returns home there are several artifacts missing from Atlantis.

Unfortunately I would have to either watch all of SG-1 or pick out the specific ones where Atlantis and SG-1 intersect to find more such moments of Vala helping Atlantis out.

I could…but I feel that would take me away from Legacy too long.

It is something to think about though since I’m working on getting the books for SG-1.

It’s short, I know, but next week we’ll be jumping into the next book, ‘Unascended’, so be ready!

StALeR 60 – Legacy: Inheritors (Part 10)

Hear me out.

O’Neill and Guide.

They’re both considered ‘consorts’. They’re both older than the others. They’re both warriors. And they’d both do anything to keep their people safe.

Would they be friends?

Honestly, I think they’d get along very well. Friends? Maybe not that, but they would definitely get a kick out of each other’s company.

If only because they’re so wonderfully devious in their own ways you know?

I mean, Sheppard and Guide are friends (I don’t care what anyone else says!) and O’Neill handpicked Sheppard for Atlantis so you know he likes the man.

And Sheppard likes Guide, which means-

O’Neill and Guide would get along just fine!

I’m basing this on my own opinion (of course), but also on the interactions between the two in this book. There aren’t many, but I get the feeling Guide respects O’Neill.

O’Neill, as always, gives what he gets.

Guide decides to be sassy, O’Neill responds in kind. Guide gives one of his toothy grins and O’Neill is right there with one of his own.

I would have loved to read more between the two (as always!), but what I’ve got is fabulous and I enjoy and laugh at it every time!

(You’re gonna laugh I promise!)

Consider the dynamic between these two old consorts and let me know what you think!

Ciao till next time!

Hate doing this…again.

Sorry y’all. There are only 3 people who can open and close the store at the moment (everyone else is out sick) and I’m one of them.

I went in to help yesterday and I close tonight then work my second job in the morning.

To say I’m exhausted would be an understatement.

I’ll try and get something Atlantis ready for next Monday.

Sorry y’all.

Kind of Atlantis?

Hello peeps!!

1st update: I ended up with a total of 46 pages written over my vacation!

And I have today off from both jobs so guess what I’ll be working on?

2nd update: My small bookshelf of TBR books is starting to grow off of the shelves again so I’ll have to read some of those instead or in addition to Atlantis.

The problem this week is that other than tomorrow, I’ll be working everyday and three of those days are both places. I’m gonna be pretty pooped y’all, but I’m off next Sunday so I’ll hopefully get to sleep in and get some reading done too.

3rd update: Good news is that the conversation went very well and my hours will start changing next week. It would have been this week but I didn’t want my boss to have to redo the schedule so late in the week.

Bad news is that I haven’t been able to find a portable CD player that’s USB. They’re all aux or Bluetooth. I may have to settle on an aux one or get a go-between piece.

Why do I need this?

For the ‘kinda Atlantis’ title reason.

I’m pretty sure I mentioned that there are audiobook productions of Stargate stories out there and I managed to snag one from ThriftBooks awhile ago. The problem, of course, is that new cars don’t have CD players stand are anymore (rude).

And the house CD player broke and we haven’t replaced it yet…

4th update: The only “downside” (feel free to envision me very sarcastically doing air quotes here) is that once I have all the audiobooks I’ll have to do another read/watch/listen through so that I can give y’all a comprehensive list for Atlantis ultimate enjoyment!

Oh no.

I suspect some of my family members have been buying them for presents so I can’t buy any myself until or unless I ask. Is okay though, cause I still have to find a dang player first!

Until next week!

How it started vs How it’s going!

So exciting to be able to share this!

Y’all know I’ve been on vacation the last two weeks (and it has been heaven!) and I’ve gotten a ton of stuff done around the house, read several books and have also been writing.

This is where the title of this post comes from because this is how my vacation started-

(178 pages at the start!)

And this is how it’s going!

(Excuse the background light please)

Keep in mind that I am scheduling this post before I’m down writing for the night. I still have a couple of hours to go but I wanted to get this ready so I didn’t forget.

I have written 42 pages over vacation and I wasn’t even writing every day. I know I said I would but, again, I was doing other stuff too.

I have over 81,800 words written and I’m not actually slowing down.

I only work three days at my second job this week so I plan to keep working on this before things get too busy again.

Speaking of my second job. Hopefully I’ll still have it because, for health reasons, I have to change my availability. It’s not the first time I’ve talked to my manager about it (it’s actually like 3rd or 4th if I count the interview) but during vacation I’ve realized that I can’t keep working the early shifts. I only worked 1 day there out of 18 and I was so exhausted that one day it wasn’t even funny.

So a conversation is going to happen and hopefully it’ll work out. Otherwise I’ll have to look for a different part time job.

That’s all for now! I’ll have an Atlantis post for next week but I wanted to share about the writing progress because I’m so happy!!

StALeR 59 – Legacy: Inheritors (Part 9)

Something of a funny thing happens during the end of the battle in this book.

Radek, Teyla and a group of Marines go to a Hiveship that’s full of explosives meant to take out Atlantis.

Teyla gets control of the Hiveship and starts to move it away, but the explosives are still a problem and armed.

Radek, of course, is trying to figure out how to disarm the mess when Ember arrives to help.

Here’s the funny part.

Radek and Ember are not unlike Radek and Rodney or Rodney and Ember.

The three are geniuses in their own rights and can work together very well under extraordinary circumstances. In this case, Radek and Ember starts finishing each other’s sentences as they see the same issues concerning the bomb.

This goes on for a bit and it’s really funny because it’s a scene we’ve seen a thousand times throughout the Stargate series’.

If the situations weren’t so dire it would essentially just be a couple of nerds geeking out over a shared passion.

It just so happens that this time it’s a human and Wraith instead of a human and another human.

They save the day (heck yeah, you go science dudes!), but Ember is injured as they leave. Radek, having taken the new retrovirus not long ago, offers to let Ember feed on him.

Obviously Ember is all for that and, true to quite a few of Guide’s people, makes sure to take what’s needed but not more.

I like these scenes because character development is always such a great thing and fans LOVE it when it’s done right.

Stargate has always been able to deliver great character development!

That’s gonna be all for this week. Next week probably won’t be a Stargate post and if it is it’ll be a half post because I’d like to do one of those ‘this is how it started vs how it’s going’ posts.

Since I have another week of vacation I’ll be buckling down on a few things and I’d like to give everyone an update.

Until next week!
