StALeR 67 – Legacy: Unascended (Part 6)

Alright, this is gonna be about Newton.

Rodney’s cat, if you forgot. The one he’s not supposed to have?

Yeah.

So Sheppard goes to ask Carson something and finds him prepping syringes. They aren’t for people though, they’re for Newton. Carina isn’t going to be giving the shots since he’s allergic to cats, but he was willing to get everything set up for his friend.

It’s cute that everyone knows about Newton and obviously isn’t going to say anything. You know that kitten is wandering around the whole city getting treats and attention at every turn.

We also know that eventually a dog is probably going to find its way to Atlantis too, and other pets at this point.

If a higher up comes around, I totally see everyone having a plan in place to hide the pets.

Anyways, Carson warns Sheppard that Rodney is most likely going to rope someone into helping him give Newton his shots. He goes on about if Rodney didn’t want to do it he shouldn’t have gotten a pet.

I don’t think Rodney will have a problem finding help and he definitely won’t shirk his responsibilities when it comes to Newton. I’m not sure about Keller though.

On the one hand she’s definitely trained to give shots and isn’t allergic, but on the other hand she also walked away. Not just from Rodney but from Newton too, so….

Until next time! Enjoy the thought of various Earth and other creatures becoming pets on Atlantis!

StALeR 66 – Legacy: Unascended (Part 5)

Have we talked about the whole ‘tribute’ thing yet?

Some planets actually made deals with various Wraith so they wouldn’t be destroyed or attacked.

Essentially, they give the Wraith so many of their people and the Wraith leave them alone for however long.

Now, in some cases this deal only went for so long before things happened and the Wraith demanded more tributes. This happened as an early episode where ‘criminals’ were left for the Wraith, but then people actually stopped committing crimes and so the government randomly targeted people they wanted gone.

All the Wraith had woken up and so they needed more food and when the planet couldn’t hand over the amount demanded, they just culled the planet.

I feel like it was the truth but also that the planet had been allowed to progress to a certain technological point that other planets hadn’t been allowed. It was probably about the time the Wraith needed to drop them down a few pegs.

Having put that forward- In Unascended we find out that a planet did random lotteries and gave the Wraith so many people and were left alone for six years. This had been going on for some time I’m guessing and everyone who stayed agreed to it.

Fast forward to now and the planet took some people in and when the Wraith came these travelers killed them.

Obviously the Wraith weren’t happy about that and demanded a much higher number of tributes to make up for their dead.

The interesting thing is the planet was mad at the travelers and not the Wraith.

Some agreements worked and some didn’t. It was dependent on the people involved, but in this new galaxy they’ve created with a retrovirus that makes it possible for a Wraith to feed more than once on a human, it makes things a little muddier for Atlantis.

There are obviously people who are willing to make such deals with the Wraith but they could also be taken on board a Hive ship and fed on for a very long time so….

Just putting it out there.

I love the world that was created for Stargate! It’s never easy and brings up some very interesting situations and those involved actually have to make decisions based on what they know at the time!

Next time!

A book by any other name?

Obviously from the title you’ve guessed I didn’t read more of ‘Unascended’. I did, however, read three other books this week!

Technically I finished two and read an entire one this weekend while I had 2 days off completely, but still.

‘One Dark Window’ by Rachel Gillig. I give a 10/10! This book was fabulous and everything I love in the fantasy genre! Book 2 hasn’t been announced yet which is disappointing, but I am definitely going to buy it as soon as it’s available!

‘The Assassin’s Blade’ by Sarah J. Maas. I give a 3/5. I admit that it might have been better to start with book 1 like my sister suggested, but by the time I talked to her about it I was already over halfway through. It’s not bad, I enjoyed all of the novellas in this book, but I definitely would have been more emotionally invested in the character ms had I read book 1. Keep in mind that this is a compilation of prequel novellas so technically I should have been fine reading them first. Book 1 is third on my list to read now.

‘Archangel’s Resurrection’ by Nalini Singh. This, this I give 100/10. There is no other choice. I LOVE her books and have never been disappointed in a single one. Do I have favorite characters? Of course, but her books are so rich that favorite characters or not you fall fast and hard and can’t put it down until the end. Then you wait not so patiently for the next one!

I have three weeks vacation/off time from my part time job starting next week and I’m hoping I’ll get more books read and definitely more posts ready to go!

Until then, find a bad pun to laugh at. Or better yet, make a bad pun to laugh at! And let me know cause I love a bad pun!!

Exhausted

I feel like half of my posts this year are me apologizing because there are no Atlantis posts.

I’m so tired y’all, but I’m almost done. I’m so close to paying off my credit card debt and then I can quit my part time job and get back to a regular sleep cycle and write and read and actually relax!

Soon, quite soon.

StALeR 65 – Legacy: Unascended (Part 4)

I’m back!

Short again, but at least Atlantis!!

Or is it?!

So, the Genii. They’ve wanted to be the dominate human force in the galaxy since pretty much the first episode we saw them in.

Problem was that they didn’t have space travel other than the Stargate’s so they were limited.

When that changed, and Sheppard gave them the Alteran ship, they still weren’t the dominate force because they only had the one ship and they also had to contend with both Atlantis and the Travelers.

What do they do? They lie. Nothing we didn’t already know about them. The worse thing about it would be that people wouldn’t know otherwise since most civilizations aren’t advanced enough yet to have wide spread communication.

You’d think all would be lost and people would flock to be under the Genii’s protection, but thankfully that isn’t true.

One of the reasons is that the Genii are flipping egotistical like you wouldn’t believe. They think they’re better than everyone else and that everyone else should bow down.

Since the Pegasus galaxy has been dealing with the Wraith forever, you can imagine how much they don’t want to be in that position again.

It’s really gratifying to hear people talk about the Genii’s supposed ‘victory’ over Queen Death with a healthy dose of skepticism. Especially since Atlantis has been doing all the heavy work since they’re arrival and have only asked for food and safe places if needed.

The Genii want a monopoly on every planet. They can’t get it on Wraith held planets or places like Sateda and Athos. Places where people know what hides behind the Genii mask.

They’ll keep lying left and right so long as it benefits them, and then a little after just to be sure.

Sadly, we must continue dealing with them.

*le sigh*

Until next time!!

Lego?!

It is 1:30 in the morning and I am wide awake due to insomnia.

But I have an early morning so really need to try to sleep. We shall see how that goes.

Obviously no Atlantis post this week, but I did want to let people know that apparently there is a peep who has submitted a Lego Idea and it’s being voted on.

If you aren’t aware, Lego let’s regular people submit ideas to them for special Lego sets and quite a few have already been produced.

I’m not saying it’s easy and I have no idea how the process actually works let alone if the person gets paid for their idea, but there are 2 Stargate Lego ideas currently being voted on.

If you go to the Lego ideas website and type in Stargate, it will bring up all of the ideas you can vote on to see if enough interest can make one (or all!) of them real sets!

You’ll need an account though…😑 I’m sure it’s free, but I only just today found out about this so…

Y’all do what you will with this info!

See ya next week!!

Never Forget

In deference to what happened September 11, 2001, there will be no posts this week.

If you remember that day, you are not alone.

If you don’t remember that day, please checkout a book at the library or ask a bookseller for a recommendation at your bookstore.

Never Forget.

StALeR 64 – Legacy: Unascended (Part 3)

Very short this week, but here we go!

Getting a look at the backstories of favorite characters is always a fun time for me. Not being a fan of Weir does take a little joy out of it because I just don’t like her.

Having said that-

With Weir back in corporeal form she’s getting flashes of her life back on Earth (because there’s always that one ascended being that breaks the rules).

Scenes from when she was in school to starting her work as a negotiator. It is interesting if only because things mentioned are my actual history.

And, okay, it’s also a little interesting to see how she became who she is in the series.

But not too interesting… honestly I’m just waiting for the good part with a certain person I know is going to show up sooner or later in this book!

…told y’all it was short.
