Review: The Invention of Hugo Cabret

The Invention of Hugo Cabret
The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I read this book in no time and it was ok. I kept hearing that it was an awesome book and I admire how the author used pictures to tell the majority of the story but was also able to seamlessly go from picture to words without the reader thinking, ‘hunh?’. I gave it only two stars because I wasn’t too impressed with the story itself. Just isn’t my type of book, not enough action or intrigue.

Review: Kissing Steel

Kissing Steel
Kissing Steel by Laurann Dohner
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I liked this book better than the first book in the series. The main female protagonist, Rena, was more believable in her reactions to the situations she was forced into. She made decisions based on what would keep her as safe as possible until she could escape, which of course led her into the arms, and bed, of the Cyborg Steel.

Can you say YUM! I liked Flint ok in the first book but Steel has to be a new favorite for me. After Rena is able to get the upper hand, he decides on keeping her for a while and soon develops feelings for her.

The story progressed well, not too fast or slow, the characters were better developed and it was just a great read! The only complaint I have for this book, and it’s a little one, is that they talked about their feelings quite a bit. Which I am okay with but it just seemed to happen a lot more than is probably credible.
Having said that though…

I can not wait for the next book!!

Review: Gone Country

Gone Country
Gone Country by Lorelei James
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Loved it!

Gavin doesn’t know what to do about his daughter Sierra. He has the choice of letting her go to jail for theft or taking her away from everything she knows and moving to be closer to the McKay’s.

So he packs up and they head out.

Rielle has been renting her house from Gavin since he bailed her out of trouble years ago. Now he’s coming and expects to stay at the house with his teenage daughter.

Things are about to get good.

With Rielle’s new hair and wardrobe (curtesy of her daughter Rory) Gavin doesn’t recognize her at first but the attraction is still there. Only problem is that he shouldn’t be feeling this way towards his renter, should he?

Trying to keep the heat banked so their daughters don’t find out is getting tougher by the day and when the girls do find out they are not happy. At all.

Will Gavin and Rielle go their seperate ways to keep the peace with there daughters? Or will they risk it all to be together?

Review: The Shadow Runners

The Shadow Runners
The Shadow Runners by Liz Maverick
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Awesome book!!! I loved it to pieces!

Deck has a purpose. To get the Voice of Freedom up and running in Australia and rally the people to fight behind Banzai MacGuire when the time comes.

The only problem is that Deck is former Royalty and doesn’t have the know-how to get around the prison Australia has become, but he knows someone who does.

Jenny Red met Deck before he was accused of killing his father, the King. And despite all the rules they became friends, until Jenny’s father killed the King and Deck did nothing as she was sent to Australia as a convict.

Now he’s back and needs her help.

Deck might be happy to see her but his dedication to the Shadow Voice is terrifying in it’s intensity and Jenny fell for him once already and he let her down.

Is history going to repeat itself or will Deck let the fight go to be with the one woman he’s always dreamed of?

1: Cam never wanted to spend his Valentine’s day at a crime scene, especially one where it’s obvious the husband lost it and killed his wife before commiting suicide.
To make matters worse, the husband was a Veteran suffering from PTSD and Cam didn’t know.

Could he have stopped this from happening? Plagued by the accusations of the deads relatives, Cam must decide if he is strong enough to over come his own wounds or if he should leave before he hurts his own family.

2: Chassie, Edgard and Trevor don’t have the traditional kind of marriage their McKay relatives do, which causes them to keep things to themselves instead of asking for help. But when their son comes home telling them he’s being bullied at school because of their marriage they no choice but to accept help from the family.

The results are amazing and heartwarming for readers and characters alike.

3: Keely is pregnant and her hubby has to go out of town on business. What could go wrong?
A lot!
In this cute short story Keely McKay Donohue is having her first child and she’s having a rough time of it. Jack doesn’t seem to care about what she’s going through and her McKay family thinks she’s gone off her rocker!

Will Keely and Jack survive this latest test of their love? Or will the coming explosion tear them apart?

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

After the first book seemed to drag on, I was leary of reading the rest of the books. Boy am I glad I did! The books just keep getting better and I like the fact that the every day teenage problems don’t just disappear between the books. The relationship problems are still there and being slogged through, the rivalries are still going on and the bad guy is still bad.

Well, one of them is still bad.

I am really happy that Kalona switched sides and is helping the fledglings. Even if it’s just to get back into the goddess’ good graces.

The only thing that would make the series complete is if Kalona got an HEA.

I’m just saying. ^-^

Review: After Dead: What Came Next in the World of Sookie Stackhouse

After Dead: What Came Next in the World of Sookie Stackhouse
After Dead: What Came Next in the World of Sookie Stackhouse by Charlaine Harris
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Although I didn’t like the end of the series at all I still felt that I should read this book telling about what happened after.

After Dead gives the names of the characters in the series and a summary of what happened to them after the last book, it’s not an actual novel or novella. And where I appreciate that Harris did this book for fans I could only give it 2 stars if I was being completely honest but again, that could be because I personally didn’t like the series end.
